Yggdrasil is the center of the Nine Realms.
When Johann Schmidt found the Tesseract in Norway, it was hidden in a carving of Yggdrasil. Later, Schmidt picked up the Tesseract, forgetting that it cannot be held by mortal hands. Thus, the Cube seemingly transported Schmidt across space toward Yggsdrasil.
Thor told Jane Foster that her world was one of nine realms of the cosmos, linked together by the branches of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. Besides her world, among the nine realms were Jotunheim, the home of the Frost Giants, and Asgard, the home realm of Thor and the Asgardians, where he would one day succeed his father, Odin, as the Allfather and protector of the all of the nine realms.
The Nine Realms of Yggdrasil aligned as part of the Convergence.
