In a press release this afternoon, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced plans to release two more The Amazing Spider-Man films following the release of the series' second film. Here is the tentative release schedule they provided:

  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - May 2, 2014
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 3 - June 10, 2016
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 4 - May 4, 2018

This announcement proves that SPE, without knowing how the series' second film is going to fare, has high hopes for the future of their Amazing Spider-Man reboot. With good reason, too -- the first film raked in over 750 million at the box office, netting the company over 500 million in profits.

So, whether you're a fan of Andrew Garfield's emo-tinged Spider-Man or not, it seems like you're going to be stuck with his version of everyone's favorite neighborhood web-slinger for at least the next five years. It's also worth noting that the proposed four films means this run will have more films than Sam Raimi's series.

Feel free to speculate like crazy about potential story-lines and super-villains in the comments!
