Martin Soap is a police detective for the NYPD and a secret ally of Frank Castle.
Biography[]
Punisher: War Zone[]
Martin Soap got a degree in behavioral psychology and entered the NYPD as a detective, never managing to obtain the respect of his colleagues because of his clumsiness and, overall, stupidity. The police department assigned him to the "Punisher Task Force", a joke section comprised only of Soap. During his investigations on The Punisher he started to realize how powerless the system was against criminals and sympathizes with the vigilante's philosophy, opening a collaboration and giving him information about his targets.
When Castle killed an undercover agent by mistake, Agent Paul Budiansky was assigned to the Punisher Task Force and became Soap's partner. Soap shared all the information he had collected about the vigilante with Budiansky, and accompanied him in his first hunt for Castle. When Budiansky actually managed to arrest The Punisher, Soap freed him while Budiansky entered Angela Donatelli's house to stop Jigsaw.
Soap remained outside of the Brad Street Hotel, but helped Budiansky in gaining the help of Jigsaw's enemies. After the battle, Soap tried to convince The Punisher to abandon his way of vengeance, making a long speech about rehabilitation and mercy, but in that very moment a mugger appeared and threatened him. Soap immediately changed his mind and asked for Frank's help who in turn shot the mugger dead.
Character traits[]
Soap is a clumsy and overly self-important cop, the target of all his colleagues. He started to sympathize with The Punisher's philosophy when he realizes how powerless the system is against criminals and starts to help him in his crusade.
Soap has a degree in behavioral psychology.
