Li Mei

Li Mei was a member of the Jade Dragons.

Biography[]

The Invincible Iron Man[]

Li Mei is the last descendent of The Mandarin, in a long line of family members. Her father was hoping to get a son to continue the lineage, instead he got a daughter. He was disappointed in her, as he didn't believe a woman could handle the legacy of The Mandarin.

Mei later became a member of the Jade Dragons, led by Wong-Chu. She was often doubted by him when it came to battle and combat, despite being aware of her personal responsibilities.

After the ruins of the ancient city was brought back by Tony Stark. The Jade Dragons, after many attempts to sabotage the restoration, killed and captured people involved. One of which was Tony's dear friend, James Rhodes. Tony along with a branch of military soldiers, arrived to save Rhodes, however they were ambushed and killed, with the exception of Tony who was fatally injured. Mei was involved in the attack, being a member of the group, she watched Tony as he was brought in to the headquarters.

She was the only group member who was nice and easy to Tony and Rhodes. The latter introduced her and Tony properly. She poured water into his mouth as he was recovering in the iron lung that was restoring his heart. He asked her why they are prisoners, Mei did not answer. She then knocked on the door to signal the guard outside. She gave a quick glance to Tony before leaving. The following morning, Tony noticed her on the balcony of the headquarters. They then connected over the fact that they both had poor relationships with their fathers. She asked Tony if he knows why he is on Earth, but he had no clue. She then stated that she does and has always known. Tony asked her if this is the life she wants to live but she claims her life doesn't matter.

As they were getting the "technology" ready, Mei warned both Tony and Rhodes that Wong-Chu was on his way. After Rhodes began to distract Chu, the former eventually was aiming to shoot Rhodes in cold blood, however he was shot before he could pull the trigger, Mei had shot him from behind. After fighting the Jade Dragons with the Iron Man suit, Tony asked Mei to come with him and Rhodes. She refused his offer and told him to not return.

After the death of Chu, Mei was chosen as the new group leader, she did not think of this promotion as much. She also refused to admit that history was repeating itself, as a member of the group pointed out how Tony's suit resembled that of the Iron Knight in the ancient prophesy. Mei then took the dragons on a mission in an attempt to infiltrate and destroy the temple, however all the Jade Dragons' soldiers ended up dead. Mei was then caught by the temple dragon and she bowed to the statue of the Mandarin, asking for forgiveness.

Later in New York, after Tony's second battle with the Elementals, Mei appeared to Tony outside of Stark Tower. Tony hugged her, much to her surprise. She told him that she tried to get into the building, he then told her that he found one of the rings of the Mandarin. She asks about the Elementals and he tells her that only the Earth one remains. She asked that he gives her the aforementioned ring citing her burden, but he refused. She told him there is no other way and that it isn't clear if everything will end if the temple is destroyed.

She then accompanied Tony in stealing a plane, even knocking out a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent herself. Mei then witnessed Tony's battle with the Earth Elemental back at the temple. After it was defeated, all of the rings dropped to the ground, Tony then handed them to her. Mei then put all of them on and revealed that her bracelet was actually the fifth ring all along. Mei begged him to stop and leave. She tells him that she has done everything she could to keep him distracted, including forging the documents that she gave to the government so he would be taken into custody. She talks of her responsibility and Tony believes it is to stop the Mandarin, however she tells him it is to resurrect him. She once again asked for him to leave but he refused, she then stated firmly that he will die.

As Tony fought all the undead soldiers and the temple dragon, Mei walked through the temple. She walked past many dragon statues and the corpses of the civilians that were slaughtered long ago. Mei eventually reached the bottom of the temple where a large pool of dark water sits. A large coffin which is that of the Mandarin, rose out of the dark water. The statues holding the coffin lid down suddenly release. Mei steps into the water and approaches the coffin, tripping on the skulls in the dark water. Mei then used the rings to finally resurrect the Mandarin's spirit, while doing so all her clothes got ripped and tattered off, leaving her fully nude. Tony eventually arrived to find her lying in the dark water.

As he attempted to help her, she yelled at him and used the rings to throw him back, now possessed with The Mandarin's spirit. She and the spirit then proceeded to kill Tony and right as the spirit ordered her to slaughter him, she eventually broke out of the trance thanks to Tony's desperate persuasion. The Mandarin's spirit then smiled and electrocuted her, injuring her real bad to the point she was incredibly weak. She then responded by taking all the rings off one by one, with each affecting the spirit making him weaker to the point where it dissolved into a skeleton. She then fell to the water, having destroyed all that there was to the dynasty. Tony then proceeded to catch her with her eyes then opening, as they stared at each other. She thanked him for saving her and while he thanked her for doing the same for him. She then pulled him closer and they embrace by a kiss. She then slumps down and dies. A beam of light comes in from the ceiling and illuminates the room. Tony hugs her now corpse in sadness as the room around them settles down.

Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme[]

After Stephen Strange became broke due to the numerous failed attempts to get his hands fixed, he walked by Li Mei as he went through the street. She ambiguously glanced at him as they walked by each other.
