Steven Rogers (Ultimate Avengers)

Steven "Steve" Rogers is the only successful test subject of the Super Soldier Serum and made himself an icon by battling the Third Reich in World War II; after which he became known as Captain America. After sixty years of being frozen in the Atlantic Ocean, Steve becomes the leader of the Avengers.

Ultimate Avengers[]

In the last days of World War II in the European Theatre, Captain America, a U.S. soldier created with the Super Soldier Serum, prevents a nuclear missile attack on the United States by Nazis, which are soon revealed to be shape-shifting extraterrestrials led by one taking the form of SS officer Herr Kleiser. The missile explosion, however, sends Rogers into a catatonic state, and he falls into the icy waters of the North Atlantic, presumed dead. Years later, Captain America is found and revived by a S.H.I.E.L.D. team led by General Nick Fury. Also present are Bruce Banner and his girlfriend Betty Ross, who lead a team of government scientists working to recreate the Super Soldier Serum in order to try and stop the Chitauri.

A Chitauri attack forces Nick Fury's superiors to order the creation of "Project Avenger", which involves the formation of a team of superhumans. Fury tries to recruit - with mixed success - Giant-Man, The Wasp, Iron Man, Thor and the Black Widow - and after several setbacks the team unite to defeat the Chitauri.

Ultimate Avengers 2[]

T'Challa seeks the aid of Captain America. General Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. orders the Avengers to assemble. The Avengers manage to destroy the core of an attacking Chitauri vessel.
