History[]

X-Men: Apocalypse[]

In the year 3,600 B.C in Cairo, Egypt, the Horsemen look over their master as he transfers himself into a new body one that can heal from any injury. As the transference begins the people of Cairo having grown tired of Apocalypse power over him enact their plan and trap Apocalypse and the Horsemen in the Pyramid and collapse the structure. While the Four are all killed the last one uses the last of her strength to protect Apocalypse from the falling debris and guaranteeing his survival.

Thousands of years later after awakening, Apocalypse recruits a young Ororo Munroe as his first Horsemen, enhancing her powers. He then goes on to recruit Psylocke, Angel and a grieving Magneto (whose wife and daughter had just been murdered).

Shortly after, the group kidnaps Charles Xavier with Apocalypse planning on taking over his body and using his powers to control the minds of everyone on Earth. However, Apocalypse and the Horsemen are confronted by the X-Men who manage to save Xavier while Angel is killed. Mystique manages to talk Erik out of helping Apocalypse by reminding him that he still has family (herself, Charles, and unknown to him Quicksilver who does not reveal their familial connection) and Storm herself defects after seeing his apathy over Angel's death and seeing him nearly kill Mystique who she idolized. After Jean manages to kill Apocalypse with the power of the Phoenix Force, Psylocke flees the area.

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse are based off of the biblical Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who are "Pestilence" (conquest) "War", "Famine" and "Death". A variety of mutants have taken up these mantles in the comics; including Gambit, Wolverine and Banshee.
  • Bryan Singer said the Four Horsemen in X-Men: Apocalypse reflect how real-world cults tend to have political, military, sexual or youth factions in them.
  • Magneto and Storm's role as one of the Four Horsemen in this movie is similar to their X-Men Evolution cartoon counterparts in the last episodes.
